A sewage backup is contaminated water carrying bacteria, viruses, and parasites into your home. It calls for protective equipment, proper disinfection, and disposal rules, not a shop vacuum and a fan.
Why sewage is different
Restoration work classifies sewage as grossly contaminated water. Anything porous it touches, carpet, pad, drywall, cardboard, is generally removed and disposed of rather than cleaned, and the remaining structure is cleaned and disinfected before drying begins. Skipping those steps leaves contamination sealed inside a wall that smells fine for a month.
Our response
We extract standing sewage, remove contaminated materials safely, disinfect affected surfaces, and dry the structure with the same moisture verification we use on any water loss. If the cause is a recurring line problem, we will tell you plainly what we found so you can get the source corrected before the floor is rebuilt.

Sewage Cleanup questions, answered
Is it safe to clean up a small backup myself?
We do not recommend it. Even small backups carry pathogens, and the water wicks into materials you cannot disinfect from the surface. At minimum, keep children and pets away from the area and call for an assessment.
Does insurance cover sewage backups?
Many policies cover sewage cleanup under a specific backup endorsement. We document the loss thoroughly and work with your adjuster either way.
